New Belgrade 2050 analyses the evolution of public spaces in sovietic Bloks 61-63 and proposes a strategic vision based on climate mitigation and community inclusion.

Over the past 25 years, Blocks 61, 62 and 63 in New Belgrade and the village of Bežanija have undergone a continuous and tedious transformation of their public space. Today, the area has lost approximately 38.000 square metres of green space and has undergone a densification of 72.000 square metres. Half of the agricultural village of Bežanija has been demolished, and the rest seems to be segregated, awaiting an uncertain fate.

Our research investigates how the open public space has been affected by this type of urban growth through and why numerous urban elements fail to actively participate in the life of the city and appear as uncared and neglected parts of public space.
